“Nanak Naam Chardikala, Tere Bhane Sarbat Da Bhalla”. This is a line recited at every Sikh Gurdwara in the world, which perfectly demonstrates the Sikh view of wishing well for all. A translation would read ‘Nanak, by God’s name one is in high spirit, by your will may all prosper’. This is a short prayer that speaks volumes about the inclusive, optimistic, and selfless nature of the Sikh faith. Yet, the Sikhs remain a largely insular community with an overwhelming majority being of Punjabi descent. Why has the Sikh faith not spread over the recent decades?
