Who We Are

The Sikh Civil Defense Association (SCDA) is a faith-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the safety of Sikh places of gathering and worship while serving as guardians for the wider communities in which we live across North America.

Guided by Sarbat da Bhala (the welfare of all) and inspired by the legacy of the Kharku Singhs and Singhnia (defenders of the Sikh faith), we provide a supportive virtual and physical space where members can engage, learn, and grow together in accordance with the Panj Gun (five virtues). We also collaborate with our local law enforcement and community organizations for the greater good, forging trust and mutual support to promote safety and well-being for our neighbors.

Our Mission

The Sikh community in the US and Canada, as a visible religious minority, often faces challenges from religious illiteracy, intolerance, and opposition to Sikh political autonomy—threats that endanger individuals and our sacred spaces. Our mission is to cultivate everyday Sikhs into modern pehredaars (guardians), empowering members through our community spaces to effectively safeguard their local congregations and communities and ensure that all can gather, live, and practice their faith in peace.

The Outpost

The Outpost is a Khalsa-centric communal space designed to highlight the traditional spiritual, martial, and natural aspects of Khalsa living. Here, members and guests can engage in outdoor activities, build self-reliance, and experience the five virtues of the Sikh tradition in action. More about visitor code of conduct can be read here.

Our Partners

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of our valued collaborators for their distinct contributions in helping us build a safer, stronger Sikh community.
